He's Here

Welcome Landon Jayce

On Tuesday, April 23rd at 1130 pm I woke up with some pains in my stomach. I thought it was just gas from the spicy dinner I eaten earlier. I woke up and went to the bathroom thinking thats all it was and tried to go back to sleep. The pain just got worse and would not go away. I went downstairs so I wouldnt wake up Lee and started to time when the pains were coming. By about 2am they were about 5 mins apart and lasting for about 30 seconds or so. I decided to wake up Lee. I told him I thought this was it and I called the hospital (as instructed in our class; call when they are 5 minutes apart) The nurse on the phone asked me why I was calling and made it sound like I had a long long ways to go and to try and go back to sleep or take a bath and not to call back until they were about 2 mins apart or if my water broke or started bleeding since we live fairly close to the hospital.

I tried to take a bath which I normally love and it was not doing anything for the pain. I tried to bounce on my exercise ball, paced the halls, Lee used the back massager thing from class and nothing helped. At about 5am I decided I better shower just in case and emailed my manager I wouldnt be in to work that day. As I was blow drying my hair I had to keep stopping for the contractions because they hurt so bad. I started vomitting a few times as well and then I noticed I was bleeding. I called back to the hospital and got the same nurse and explained that I was vomitting and bleeding thinking she would tell me to come in right away. Lee started packing up the car thinking wed be heading to the hospital but the nurse said well that means you are making progress but Id still just stay home and tough it out there. I was so frustrated and was wondering if I was being a wuss. I didnt know how much pain I should be in but and it was awful. She kept saying its my first baby and being 2 weeks before my due date it would be all day into the next day so I needed to rest and stick it out at home because they wouldnt be able to give me anything for the pain unless I was dilated to 4 cm. She said to call back when I couldnt take it anymore and theyd get me a room ready.

By a little after 7 I was like I dont care Im going in. If they send me home that is fine. I had Lee call this time to tell them we were on our way and they still made me talk to the nurse. She said to go ahead in come in theyd be ready for me but really made it sound like I was coming in too soon. The car ride seemed to take forever with the downtown rush hour traffic..everyone was going into work at this time. We seemed to hit every red light. Its normally about a ten minute drive but it seemed to take forever. We finally got there and Lee only grabbed our one bag thinking hed come back down and grab the rest after seeing if they would admit me or not. We got up there and I could barely walk at this point and a nurse led us back to a room and handed me a gown to put on. It was 7:50 am and by this point I was bleeding quite a bit and in so much pain. The nurse was taking her sweet time and then finally came in to check me(all relaxed and slow) and then after she did she was like oh my you are complete!

We were both in shock. She paged for the doctor to come right away. I was completely mad because here I had been calling and calling and they kept telling me to stay home and I really wanted something for the pain and there really wasnt time for that now. The doctor was luckily there and came in and checked me and said to try pushing a few times to see how well I pushed...it could be hours or quick depending on how I did and then I could decide if I wanted to get an epidural still. He left the room and I did a couple pushes with the nurses and Lee. After about 3 sets of contractions she said the head was starting to crown. I did not believe her. She paged for the doctor again and when he got in the room he was putting on his gear and I was like hurry up. I just needed to push.

Before he let me push he gave me two shots(long needle) vaginally on both sides to hopefully ease some of the pain. I really dont think that kicked in on time though. It hurt really bad. Then I pushed a couple of times and he was out. They put him on my chest and I was just in complete shock. It did not seem real! There was no time to process it all.

Landon Jayce was born on 4/24 at 8:28am, and weighed 7 lbs, 14 oz, 20" long.

Then came the scary point that I was not ready for. I kept bleeding and the doctor could not get it to stop. He kept pushing down on my stomach and massaging the uterus to try and get it to stop. This was for over an hour and you could tell he was concerned. He was examining the placenta and hoping nothing was stuck inside. Two nurses were on each side trying to get an iv in my hand in case I would need blood. I was just shaking and so scared. Lee was holding the baby and no one was really paying any attention to him. The doctor asked me if they had found anything wrong with my ultra sound with the placenta and there hadn't been. People were coming in and out and they gave me a shot of something to try and help stop the bleeding and got some fluids going. Finally after over an hour he was able to stop the bleeding but I had lost so much blood. I was told I could not get up for most of the day and had to have a catheter put in. I could not bathe/shower or even have my bed slightly raised.

They finally raised me up to breast feed and it was too fast at once that I felt like I was going to pass out. The nurse had to hit the emergency call point and all these nurses rushed in to help. Once they lowered my bed back down I was fine again but so scary! I was eventually about to hold my baby and Lee could finally go get our cameras so we could take some pictures. They then started to measure the baby and get all of his stats. Lee was able to give him his first bath. It was kinda disappointing because I just had to sit there and wasn't able to help or participate. Lee finally called our parents to tell them the news. Everyone was shocked at how fast he had come.

He was technically 2 weeks early to the day to my due date of May 8th but they said after measuring him he seemed like a full term (40week) baby. My original due date was April 21st so who knows! Either way we are happy our little boy is here and are so in love. We could not have expected something like this at all.
