3 Months Old

Wed, July 24th- 3 months old/13 weeks

How are you 3 months old already? You aren't really looking like a little baby anymore. You look more grown up each day.

--We tried weighing/measuring you ourselves since we wont take you to the doctor until your 4 month appointment; you are approx 16 pds, and 24 inches long
--Still wearing a size two diaper and have started wearing 3-6 month and 6 month clothes already eek! Some are smaller/bigger than others.
--You are liking your pacifier a lot more these days; especially while sleeping..not sure if thats good or bad haha sometimes youll wake up after going to bed needing your paci back in your mouth.
--Typically eating 5 oz bottle every 3 hours or so..longer when you are sleeping. You had a week where youd drink closer to 6 ounces but we think it may have just been a growth spurt. You dont like to burp and will scream when we go to burp you half way through and esp at night. We have tried to just burp at the end and it seems to go better and you still dont spit up very much. You are doing all bottles now.(Mom is still pumping)We moved up to the bigger bottles and size 2 nipples.
--You are quite the droll monster..we always have you wearing a bib bc you soak through your clothes from all the spitting, drooling and blowing bubbles.
--You have been going to bed around 8-830 and usually wake up once between 2-3 to eat and then youll go right back to sleep until around 6-7. When you wake up you usually are just talking and making noise not really crying..After waking up, you will play for an hour or so and not want to eat until around 8. This will change Im sure when you start daycare next week. You do still have bad nights where you wake up over and over for no reason but will go back to sleep if we pat your back or give you your paci.
--You still sleep in your crib with your sleep sac(arms out) and music playing..you like to sleep on your side and you pretty much always roll yourself onto your stomach no matter how we lay you. I know this is a big no no but you do it on your own so not much we really can do about it.
--Mom went back to work and you had two weeks with dad at home before daycare.
--You still like your swing and playmat--batting at all the toys and talking to them. You are talking and smiling so much more now. Its so fun!
--This week you began to grab for toys and hold on to them without us putting them in your hands to hold. I think you are starting to figure it out.
--You love to stand up on us with us holding your hands and are getting really good at it. You can kinda sit in your bumbo seat or on the couch propped up.
--You love to be facing out to see everything.
--Still love bath time..you kick and splash like crazy! We bathe you every other day. Im sure you would like one everyday.
--You love stroller walks and yesterday dad took you strapped in like a big boy..not sure if you are quite to that point yet but you liked to see everything
--We took you to your first Twins game and you did great.
--You are a pretty calm/happy baby just get fussy when you are tired or need to eat. You were having spells where you'd scream bloody murder to eat but we have gotten good at having a bottle ready for you and giving it to you before you get to this point.
--Your hair is still looking kind of red and wavy
--Still naps pretty good in the mornings and some afternoons you fight it and just take 30 min cat naps. We've had some days where you just refuse to sleep more than 10 minutes. You've taken some naps in your crib but you always seem to wake up frequently in there. Hoping this changes after day care.
--You like when I make a sound with my lips to you and you try and say it back..its so cute! Every time we try and record it you see us and then stop! Lil stinker!
--You suck on your fingers/hands all the time too..helps contribute to the drool monster!!
--You stay away a lot more in the car now..for longer trips you seem to stay awake for part of the time and then sleep the rest but you don't really fuss which is nice. I think you like to get out of the house and see things; you get bored at home.
--You are getting a lot better about looking both ways not preferring one side and holding/moving your head around
--We put together your jumper/music activity thing and you are slowly liking it..not quite to the sitting up part but we can prop you up in there with a blanket.
--You are starting to tolerate books a little more but we can usually make it through one or two and other times you just don't like it and dont want to sit through them
--You like to be rocked and held while sleeping
--You can put yourself to sleep better at bed time..we have laid you down with just your paci and you eventually fall asleep..Sometimes you are just a wild man moving your arms all around..I think this is what wakes you up all the time..You frequently scratch yourself on the face too all the time.

Hat

My Auntie Lynn made both Landon and Cameron hats for winter. These pics were just too cute not to post. hahaha Well see how much you want to wear it in the winter time.

First Twins Game

Landon's First Twins Game

On Sunday, July 21st we braved it and took Landon to his first Twins game at Target Field. I had always said Id never be that person to take a baby to a sporting event but we did. Grandpa Miguel had 10 free tickets from work so we decided to all venture out and go to the game along with Matt, Jodie, Ava and Cam.
It was a beautiful day, it rained on the way up but the sun was shining by the time we got up to the cities. We had awesome seats in the outfield but unfortunately they were very sunny; not good for babies. We lathered you up with sunscreen for the first time. They say not to until 6 months old or so but our pediatrician said it was fine just to still try not to keep them in the sun for prolonged amounts of time and to test a small area of his skin before using alot of it, which we had done. We also kept a hat on you at all times which you did really well with. Sometimes you hate wearing hats.
I carried you around in the baby bjorn until we got to our seats which worked well. We then tried to keep you out of the sun. After an hour or so we ventured down to find some shade and even stood in front of a giant cooling fan. Mom and Dad also took turns having ice cream breaks haha! Ava was so cute at the game, she said to us, "I have a ticket so that means I go down and play too right?" haha She is too funny! She wanted to sit in my lap too which was kinda hot but I beared through it. At about the 6th inning, the twins had no runs and we decided you had had your quota of sun for the day so we packed up and headed home. It was a quick game but Im glad we went. You were exhausted and ready for bed around 7 so we gave you a bath and you passed out for bed. Too much fun with all your cousins this weekend!

Here are some pics:

Grandmas 60th Bday Party

On Saturday, July 20th we held a 60th bday party for my mom at our house. Her bday was May 2nd but because of the two babies arrivals we had to have a delayed party for her. My mom's brother and sister came, along with my cousin Rachel and her family. It wasnt a huge party but it was still fun for all of us to get together. The weather was perfect so we were outside the whole party. We played yard games and chilled under our new deck. I had put together some snacky food and sides but we had the meat catered in from a local bbq place Roscoes. Overall I think the party was a success!

Back to Work:(

On Tuesday, July 16th it was time for me to head back to work:( So sad! The 12 weeks went by tooo fast! Everyone tells you that and you never believe them. I thought I would get so bored at home and would be anxious to get back to work, boy was I way wrong! The time at home with you just flew by.

I know I should be grateful for the time I had at home with you but I wish I had even more. I didn't think I would get so emotional having to leave you but it was so hard. I even just had to leave you home with daddy for a couple weeks too and not even to daycare yet. I woke up that morning and as I was getting ready I kept tearing up; just the thought of leaving you. I knew you would be just fine home with your dad and it would be good for you two to have some bonding time but I still just could not stop the tears.

When I went downstairs, Lee was kinda teasing me like oh are you crying yet...yep I was:( I hadn't even left the house yet. I couldn't even look at you. Its amazing how attached you get to such a little person. hehe I finally gathered up my stuff and headed out. I couldn't even say goodbye to you:(

Once I got in the car and headed to work I pulled it together. It was very hard to walk up those stairs to my office. Everyone was so welcoming and stopped by to welcome me back; which helped me a lot. They all asked how you were doing and told me they were happy to have me back. Keeping busy that day with meetings and catching up def helped.

I did run home at lunch to see you and you of course you were just fine with dad. I managed to get in a few cuddles and smiles while I was home. One perk of living just a couple mins away from work. I overall survived my first day back. I know one thing is for sure though, Dad will be dropping you off on your first day of daycare! I know I would lose it. haha Ill handle the pick up!!! Im sure with time I will be able to drop you off just fine too!!

First Overnight away

Kenny Chesney Concert- Target Field

On July 12th, we headed up to the cities for our first overnight away from you. We had had grandma babysit for a couple of days while we were both in a wedding but we were always back home at night. Auntie Dana came and watched you until Grandma Ann could drive over after work to take the nighttime shift.

We headed up to the cities around 2pm and got to our hotel. We dropped off our stuff and I waited to the last possible minute to pump before the concert; while enjoying a beer. haha I felt soo classy! LOL. They say that's the best time to drink if you are going to. I was planning on pumping and dumping that night anyway to have a night out with a few adult beverages. haha

We walked to Target Field from our hotel and stopped at a cowboy themed bar..I think it was called Cowboy Jacks and had a couple of beers and ordered some appetizers. It was so weird to be out together without the baby and in a bar too. haha We then headed over to find our seats and we missed the first opening act Kasey Musgraves but we weren't too interested in seeing her anyway. Eli Young Band and Zac Brown Band then performed. Kenny didn't come out until 9pm..which we figured it would be later. By about 1030 my boobs just could not take it anymore so we decided to head back to the hotel and miss the end of the concert:( So sad but we prob missed the huge crowd leaving as well. Its kind of a long concert too 5-11pm. They prob should cut out an act or two bc it makes for a long time to sit there. Oh the joys of pumping...haha you cant just be out as long as you want. I really had pushed the time limit of going without pumping too.

We had thought about going out after I pumped but we were both so exhausted and decided to call it a night. It was so nice to have a full nights sleep..even though I woke up early to pump.

The next morning we were anxious to get back to our little babe and headed right home. You had a great time with Dana and grandma!

Nursing vs Bottle Feeding

I went into this pregnancy wanting to try the whole breastfeeding/nursing thing but had the attitude that Id try it and if it didn't work for me I would not stress out or be upset; to do simply what works best for me and my baby. I was not breastfed as a baby and my mom/aunt etc did not do this so they have very strong opinions against it..why would you do that blah blah just because it wasn't as "in" back in the day. I tried to just ignore their comments and do what I wanted to do. I honestly don't see why they care if they aren't the ones doing it or paying $25+ for each can of formula. I think breastfeeding is more "in" now a days and many of my friends, coworkers, relatives chose to go this route as well.

From the time you were born in the hospital you had no problems nursing on the right side..the left side was another story..my nipple was a little inverted so it was harder for you so I think you didn't like the extra work. The second day the nurse gave me some plastic nipple cup things to try and get the nipple to come out..this did work but it also caused milk to leak out.. I used these for several days and it did help but you still preferred the right side. The left side did get blisters and bled once as well..prob from in correct latching or irritation. On the day we left the hospital, the nurse suggested using a nipple shield to see if that would help and it definitely did so from then on I used one...mostly just on the left side but then eventually used it on both sides because you preferred it.

The lactation people at the hospital were not really pro using these..they were like why did you bring that? Did you suspect problems? Make sure you pump after every time you feed if you use one blah blah. When at home I did do this in the beginning..I would feed you and then Id try and pump for 15 mins after. I would do this all the time during the day but at night I did not do this bc if I had I would be up 24 hours straight by the time you finished eating and I pumped it would be time to do it all over again. Gradually it became too hard to do it every time..being home alone during the days with you..so Id for sure do it first in the morning after getting up and then before bed...this helped with engorgement too..Sometimes Id do it one time during the day; esp if we wanted to go somewhere..Id pump so Id have a bottle along to feed you. I am not a huge fan of having to BF in public..haha even though I had a cover thing.

This system worked pretty well but approaching 2 months old..and many growth spurts I just could not do the nursing at night. I was getting no sleep and you wanted to eat like every hour sometimes so it was just non stop feeding. We then decided to try doing bottles at night..this would mean Lee would have to help out too which he was ok with. Hed wake up and change you while I warmed a bottle brought it up and then Id pump while he fed you and put you back to sleep. This immediately made a huge difference. You would stay full longer and sleep longer and I could be done in 20 mins or so vs spending an hour feeding you and getting you back to bed. This kinda sucked bc we were both awake each time but it made life way easier. Thanks daddy for helping mommy even with having to get up to work each day!

I gradually began giving you a bottle or two during the days too to the point by about 10 weeks we were doing all bottles and no nursing. Id sometimes nurse like once a day or so just so you'd still be able to do it but you just got fussy and were not really into it.. You'd just get lazy..fall asleep or eat a couple mins then stop and then want to eat again an hour later. You just preferred the bottle..I'm sure its faster and easier for you too. I then decided to just to all bottles. I would be going back to work in a couple weeks anyways so youd be doing bottles at daycare. I have continued to pump and freeze the milk. Thank god for our deep freezer!! It is full of frozen milk. I was pumping roughly three hours but a little longer in between at night. It is a lot of work to pump so much and clean everything in between but at least you are still getting my milk. We'll thaw out older milk and have the bottles all ready to go in the fridge each day. It seems to be working out good. It is hard to find time to pump during the day when Im home alone with you because sometimes you just do not want to lay there or get fussy or want to be held but I've managed to make it work. I go back to work next week so we'll see how Ill find time to fit in pumping etc. I know it will be hard but Ill try and see how long I can tolerate it. Hopefully I will be able to keep up for your needs as well...as you continue to increase the amount you eat.

Its always hard to know exactly how much to give you in a bottle some doctors say feed them as much as they want you cant overfeed a baby..they'll spit it up if its too much..Others say only 1 oz per hour etc. We just have to do what works for you..no one wants a unhappy screaming hungry baby. You are a little bit of a chunker but you are cute and we love your little fat rolls! Id rather have a chunker than a baby that didnt want to eat. The doctor did not seem concerned with your weight gain and thought you looked great!!

Hungry Boy

You are overall a very happy, calm baby but when you are hungry..you are HUNGRY! You absolutely lose it and scream bloody murder until that bottle is in your mouth. You typically eat every 3 hours but sometimes when you are sleeping you'll go longer so its hard to always have it warmed and ready for you and you do not like to wait the 4 mins for it warm up. You scream and scream and nothing soothes you..you'll spit out your paci and turn beat red. Its very hard to stay calm and listen to you scream.

When we stop to burp you (half way through bottle) you'll also sometimes just scream and refuse to burp. This can be very embarrassing out in public because people are prob wondering why you are screaming so hard/loud. You must just be one hungry growing boy.(chunky monkey) We are by no means underfeeding you...prob overfeeding to some extent. We've now switched over to the bigger bottles, and the slow flow size 2 nipple. You also typically drinking between 5-6 oz every 3 hours or so. According to the doc you should drink about 1oz per hour..if we fed you only 3 ounces you would go ballistic. You don't spit up very much so this must be the right amount for you. You have had no trouble gaining weight either..you had almost doubled your birth weight at your 2 month apt.

Your new routine is to wake up once during the night around 2-3am wanting to eat and during this time it is even worse to listen to you scream..you work yourself up so much that I think it causes you to eat to fast and then you'll spit up more. Last night I had a bottle ready for you to go on my nightstand to try and give it to you right away..this worked good but then you fell asleep and we didn't want to wake you to change your diaper and then this morning I woke up to a soaked through onesie/sleep sack and wet sheets. EEK! Well have to get this figured out haha!

Blow out

Embarrassing blow out

On 4th of July morning, Sarah went to hold you and we were all sitting around the kitchen counter. You were happy and making a lot of noises. I joked to Sarah oh yeah hell have a blow out on you and all of sudden shes like I feel something..here all this poop came running out the side of your diaper and was dripping onto the kitchen floor. I wiped up the floor with an old towel and used some baby wipes to wipe off Sarah's feet. Luckily she was wearing scrub pants as pjs and hadn't showered for the day yet, but I still felt horrible. She was good about it and works in the medical field so shes had way worse on her. You have had blow outs before but never to the point of coming out of your diaper or on us...just always on yourself/clothes. This will make for a funny story when you are older! At least it was not in public. haha

First Trip to WI/4th of July

First trip to WI/First 4th of July

We left Wednesday morning after you had eaten and got the car all packed up. So much stuff to remember and to pack. It barely all fit in our car. It is about a 3 hour drive so we were hoping you'd sleep the whole way. With your teething issues the previous day we were a little worried how you'd be too. You fell asleep about 10 mins in but woke up a half hour later or so. We stopped in Lacrosse quick to make a quick stop to Kohls for mom. haha Its amazing the stuff you can forget when you are packing for the baby and yourself and then suddenly realize you forgot stuff once off on the road.

You eventually fell back to sleep and slept the rest of the way to Grandpa and Grandma K's house in De Forest, WI. Once we got there you needed to eat right away and then you were good to go. They of course were anxious to see/hold you. We hung around there for a few hours until the start of Lee's Grandpas 90th bday party. It was a little over a half hour away so we had to pack you back up into the car. You luckily slept the whole way there. Once were there you were very alert looking at all the people. There were prob over 100 people there. It was such a perfect night. Warm with a slight breeze. Everyone was anxious to meet you!

We stayed until close to 8pm then decided we better get you home for bed time before you got overtired. You usually get this way between 7-8pm so you were doing well for making it that long. We got you back to Grandpa and Grandmas and fed you and got you ready for bed. You slept until around 12 and then wanted to eat..then you kinda tossed and turned the rest of the time until about 6 am and then we got you up and fed you. This caused you to be very sleepy the entire day.

We headed over to a family friends house to watch the parade and have lunch for the 4th of July. We dressed you in two holiday outfits for the day haha...courteous of Grandma Ann. tee hee. You were too cute! You slept through the entire parade in your stroller and everyone oohed and ahhed over you. You woke up in time for lunch and walked around and looked at everyone. You love to walk around and see what is happening. After lunch, around 1 we decided we better go get packed up and get ready to head back.

You managed to sleep the entire way home as well. WE stopped about an hour away from home for gas and you woke up so we fed you quick in the parking lot..classy!! Just in case you'd be hungry before getting home. You stayed up for a couple hours after we were home and then you were out cold again and went to bed early..around 7pm. I was shocked I thought for sure wed pay for you sleeping so much that day and youd be up all night long.. You managed to sleep until around 230..ate and woke up a couple times and woke up a little before 9 to eat again.

First trip to WI was very successful!!

A few pics of our handsome little man:

First Tooth?!?!?!

Tuesday, July 2nd

The night before my friends had a bachelorette girls night at Lana's house..we used to do this every Monday night but stopped doing them once everyone got so busy. I had been talking with my friend Holly about teething and how her 4.5 month old was getting teeth and things to do to help etc.

The following day I was holding you and you were quite fussy and clingy that day. I had noticed you had been drooling a lot the past week too; to the point of soaking through several bibs per day. You were also sucking your paci and fingers a lot more..constantly. I thought maybe you were just finally liking it and figuring out your fingers more but I saw something hard and white in the back of your mouth on the bottom. You were also having a bit more gas--diarrhea than usual too.

I texted both my mom(she used to work at a dental office way back when) and my friend Dana who is a dental assistant...is it possible for my 10 week old to already be teething?!?! I thought this happened more around 4-6 months or so. My mom responded that my brother had two teeth at 3 months old but right in the front bottom..most babies get these teeth first. Dana also said this as well and said if it was in the back that is like a 1-2 year molar and he should not be getting that.

You continued to be fussy and scream and wanted to be held so when Lee came home later we got a video of it and sent it to Dana. It was impossible to get a good picture of it. She said it did in fact look like a tooth and that was just crazy for you to be getting that already and that one as well. We were leaving for WI the next day so I was very worried how you would do on the car drive and trip with teething.

My poor baby has to go through this already!!! Ahh!

Sleep

I had to post because last night was the first time you have slept through the night without waking up and needing to eat. You went from about 830pm until 5 am and it was amazing. The longest you had ever gone wo/ eating was until 2am and woke up several times needing us to rub your back or give you your paci. I kept waking up wondering if you were ok. hahaha!! Lets hope this pattern continues!!! Good job baby!!

On a side note you keep sucking your thumb or entire hand a lot the past few days. You had before but not as much..you seem to know what you are doing now and if your paci falls out you'll go for your hands. The only bad thing is sometimes you push it too far in or your whole hand so then you'll gag/cough. haha I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon!
